Fiscally fit kids

first_imgSince its founding over 80 years ago, San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) has become one of the largest credit unions in the nation, now serving a diverse community of more than three million people.“While our membership has grown, our founding principle is still what guides us: People come first and profits second,” explained Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO.That commitment to people has also been demonstrated on a large scale – last year SDCCU supported more than 75 non-profit organizations and participated in more than 500 community events.“Our support includes title sponsorships like San Diego County Credit Union Walk MS,” Campbell said. “Each year, staff in our branches collects donations and Team SDCCU, which is made up of more than 100 employees and their friends and families, walk to help find a cure for this devastating disease. Unique style with space in this custom designed suburban home

first_img58 Minto Crescent Arana Hills floorplan. With the suburb welcoming more people and more development over the years, he said Arana Hills had changed a lot for the better.“There are many more trees and many more birds now,” he said. HOT PROPERTY: This Arana Hills home is on the market now.ARANA HILLS was a very different place when Graham Mannix bought an empty block of land in Minto Crescent in 1967.A big dairy farm was nearby, and there was very little of the recognisable suburbia of today. He paid $1300 for a piece of land, and a further $7076 for the construction of what he described as a basic home. Set for summer.A structural draftsman and builder, Mr Mannix liked to do what he could to the house himself, even if it meant spending a year’s worth of spare weekends to dig and build a pool in the backyard. “The kids were the ones who benefited more than me,” he said.Although the original building had not changed much, he made other big changes including adding a big veranda and a deck at the back of the home and updated the look of inside the home. The unique home was designed by its owner.“My wife and I were very concerned because my repayments were $39 a month,” Mr Mannix said. Wanting practicality over luxury, the original home was about as basic as he could get, in order to keep costs down. “It was just a box — we didn’t even have a kitchen,” he said. Over the coming years he added more to the home to get it to the level he wanted for his family. Some players deliberately underperformed in 2009 NZ series: Naved

first_imgLAHORE: A number of senior players “deliberately under-performed” during Pakistan’s 2009 ODI series against New Zealand in the UAE because they were unhappy with Younis Khan’s captaincy, former pacer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan has alleged. While speaking on a local news channel as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk, Naved said: “We lost two ODI matches against New Zealand in UAE during 2009 because some of the players involved deliberately did not play well, and I sat out that tour.””I did not play because I had told Younis Khan that this was the conspiracy against you and that I am also a part of that plot. This was not a rebellion against Younis Khan. He was a good cricketer and I did play alongside him so there were no issues except that when he became captain, he became a different person. Some seniors, and I won’t name names as they may have had aspirations of being captains themselves, got us involved in this whole affair as well to further their aims. We were about seven to eight people involved in this.” IANS Also Read: Hard to foresee crowds of fans returning ‘any time soon’: FA chief Greg Clarke Also Watch: Gaurav Gogoi In an exclusive chat with Oineetom Ojah only on Sentinel Assamlast_img read more

Five reasons Germany failed at the World Cup

first_img0Shares0000Germany finished last in their PoolKAZAN, Russian Federation, Jun 27 – Germany have failed to qualify from the group stages at a World Cup finals for the first time since 1938.AFP looks at five reasons why the holders performed so badly in Russia: Loew’s misguided loyaltyHead coach Joachim Loew has always stuck by his tried and trusted stars — but it was Germany’s undoing in Russia.Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira are glaring examples of Loew’s misguided loyalty.Thomas Mueller was unconvincing in Russia © AFP / Roman KruchininBoth were dropped for the 2-1 win over Sweden after woeful performances in the opening shock defeat to Mexico, yet neither made an impact when recalled for Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to South Korea.Thomas Mueller, one of the heroes from the 2014 win, was rightly dropped from the starting 11 against South Korea but failed to make an impact as he came off the bench.Even Toni Kroos, fresh from winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, was a shadow of his usual self in Russia, only redeeming himself with the winning goal against Sweden.A cleanout of the winners from four years ago, many of whom are past their sell-by dates, is on the cards.StagnationRussia 2018 is a serious dent to Loew’s golden reputation and his 12-year reign could be coming to an end.Loew has already said he is considering his future, despite signing a contract extension until 2022 only last month.Germany have stagnated in the last 12 months.Loew has not developed the team tactically, torn between the 4-2-3-1, which won the World Cup, or toying with deploying a back three.A lack of tempo in Germany’s game has been a glaring factor and when the pressure was on, none of his stars could crack the South Korean defence.Talent unnurturedGermany won last year’s Confederations Cup without their stars, but Timo Werner was the only emerging starlet to be given a regular starting berth in the senior team.Leon Goretzka, who led Germany’s midfield brilliantly at the Confederations Cup last year, Niklas Suele, Julian Brandt and Sebastian Rudy are only given their chance when Loew’s first-choice stars are suspended or injured.Manchester City’s Leroy Sane was in the preliminary squad but later cut © AFP / JOE KLAMARThe decision to omit Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, the Premier League’s Best Young Player last season, from the World Cup squad spoke volumes when fresh impetus was badly needed in Russia.‘Tournament team’ mythBefore the World Cup started, both Kroos and Jerome Boateng confidently described Germany as “a tournament team” who switch on for finals, and the feeling was things would just click eventually. The myth was blown clean away by the defeats to Mexico, South Korea and the nervy, last-gasp win over Sweden. It is a consequence of too many Germany stars enjoying their status as World Cup winners without the performances to back it.Germany qualified for Russia with a perfect record of ten wins and as Mats Hummels admitted after defeat to South Korea, the last time the team played well together was late 2017.The writing on the wall, from defeats to Brazil and Austria, plus a shaky win over Saudi Arabia in a pre-tournament friendly, was ignored to Germany’s peril.Shaky defenceIn Russia, Germany were nowhere near the compact unit which conceded just four goals in seven games at the 2014 World Cup.First-choice centre-backs Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng are short of pace and too often left to fend for themselves at the back.Despite only recently returning from a fracture foot, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was too often called upon as Germany’s last line of defence. The lack of German defenders hurling themselves into tackles, like they did in Brazil four years ago, has been glaring in Russia, as was the lack of composure when defending.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

They have been in Europe, where they have played in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, England and the Czech Republic to promote their new album “TNTLC’.The French connectionAlso making the journey from Europe is the jazz collective ARFI, who will be presenting “Stories of the Uncanny’, which is sponsored by the Alliance Françoise, the French Institute and the Goethe Institute.“Stories of the Uncanny’ is a thriller filmed in 1919 which was lost for a number of decades before it was rediscovered by the Cinematheque de Paris and restored by the Kirch Group.ARFI will be performing the live sound track to the movie, which features five short stories: In the first, “Horrible Nights’, a man and a young woman visit a hotel and the next morning, when he wakes up, she has vanished without a trace. The final story presents a lighter side to things, when a marriage that is failing is revived after a stranger shows interest in a man’s wife.Bigger and betterAardklop 2003 will be even bigger than 2002’s successful production, and the programme has been expanded beyond last year’s. It was decided to include an international act for the first time, the aforementioned ARFI, while artists one would not normally associate with Aardklop, such as Mandoza and Zef Sketse, will also be performing.Adding an exciting component to the festival was a request by the organisers for certain artists to work on collaborative projects. This has resulted in combinations such as Not my Dog (winners of the South African Music Association’s best rock album) playing with Mister Fat from Brasse van die Kaap; Albert Frost teaming up with exciting new Blues’ talent Dan Patlansky; and the Brixton Moord en Roof Orkes joining forces with Karla du Plessis. The complete list of artists for OppiAarde 2003 is as follows:Albert Frost and Dan PatlanskyAlta JoubertAnika and ElrineARFI – Stories of the Uncanny (France)Arno Carstens’ New PornBOO!Brasse van die KaapBrixton Moord en Roof Orkes with Karla du PlessisddisselblomMandozaMax NormalNot my Dog with Mister FatThe NarrowValiant SwartZef SketseTickets for the Castle Lager OppiAarde concert are available at Computicket at R55 each. For more information, phone 083 258 2595 or visit the Aardklop 2003 website, which has details on the full programme and the artists.Source: Aardklop 2003last_img read more

So happy to have uncovered a single that matches perfectly.Great worth vital hair item. Very good benefit essential for hair. Good design with out likely above the major. Seems to be to be fair sizing: so many of these are created for ten yr olds. Here are the specifications for the Triple Row Plastic Alice Band IN7859:Black coloured plastic alice bandTriple row effectOuter 2 sections have a row of fine teethMeasures 2.75cm wideAll measurement approximate across widest pointsAttractive, comfy headband. This hairband is just so lightweight and so comfortable. No digging in guiding the ears or providing you and headache that so many do. I want they did additional colors. I will certainly be purchasing more of these headbands. The plastic high-quality is pretty great and the delivery was quick but mine was faulty as the central row was still attached to the other 2 rows by a skinny plastic bond which i experienced to break prior to wearing it , i also was expecting it to be wider but for the selling price it is good.Reviews from purchasers :Good Value & Very Comfy To WearI love these bandsPerfect for holidayLovely, comfortable headbandWonderfully designed. Now my hair is kept well off good value for money and came before the estimated delivery Finest just one i have bought from amazon. Credit Scores and How to Boost Them: Part 1

first_imgBy Carol ChurchIn a world where credit scores have a lot of power over our financial future, it pays both to know your score and to know how to boost a score that needs a leg up. While the average American’s score is decent (in the high 600s), many of us do face the problem of a not-so-great credit score at one point or another in our lives. This little number can have big consequences. Having a lower score can make it tough to secure loans at reasonable rates…or even get credit at all. Meanwhile, having a high score can grant access to favorable terms on car loans, mortgages, and credit cards, exempt consumers from paying deposits, decrease car insurance rates, and more. As the years pass, a high score can actually save people thousands of dollars, such as when having excellent credit vs. poor credit means the difference between paying 3% and 10-20% on a loan.Implications for Service MembersFor service members, credit scores can even affect career opportunities. The military typically runs a credit check on members who need security clearance–and if they find problems, that’s not good. (One study found that over 80% of security clearance denials in the Navy were due to credit problems.) A poor credit score may give the impression that a member is not responsible, trustworthy, or able to self-manage. It may even raise concerns that he or she could be prone to making dangerously poor financial decisions while on the job, or to consider stealing money to pay off debt. What’s A Good Score? In general, a credit score in the 300s-500s is very poor, 600 through mid-600s is okay, high 600s through mid-700s is good, mid 700s through 800 is great, and above 800 is fantastic. Different sites have different opinions on these cut-offs, though. Many experts consider the “magic number” (when rates fall significantly) to be somewhere around 760-780. (Did you know that military PFMs can get service members access to a free credit score? Check out this page to learn more.)It’s also important to know that though we talk about a credit “score” as if each person has only one, there are several different models in use. However, these individual scores are not likely to be too different from each other; lenders will tend to look at the average. The BasicsSo, what can people with lower credit scores do to bring this important number up—and what shouldn’t they do? The main elements that contribute to a credit score are bill payment history (whether you pay our bills on time every month), credit utilization (how much you owe compared to the total amount of credit you have been extended), length of credit history (how long you have held your credit accounts), credit mix (the various types of credit you hold), and amount of new credit (how many new requests for credit you’ve recently made). Of these, bill payment history and credit utilization are most important.Dr. Barbara O’Neill and Rod Griffin from Experian presented a 90-minute webinar on credit scores in 2016. Watch a recording of the event above, and find copies of the slides and more materials from this event. However, there is certainly a bit more to the story than this. In part 2 of this series, we’ll go over some more in-depth “do’s and don’ts” for those who are looking to increase their credit scores. Stay tuned.last_img read more

Deepika Kumari falters and misses Archery World Cup Final gold medal

first_imgIndia’s Deepika Kumari squandered a two-set lead against London Olympics double gold medallist Ki Bo Bae of South Korea, and had to settle for the silver medal in the women’s individual recurve competition at the Archery World Cup Final in Tokyo on Sunday.Deepika won the first two sets, but allowed the Korean to make a remarkable comeback and seal top honours in the season finale in the Japanese capital. The Jharkhand teenager was a whisker away from winning the deciding fifth set but shot a seven in her final attempt, opening the door for her opponent who prevailed 6-4.Dola Banerjee is the only Indian archer to win a gold medal at the World Cup Final, when she triumphed in Dubai in 2007.The showdown with the top two archers in the world rankings took place in rain, but Ki dealt with the elements better when it really counted.Deepika had won the silver medal at the World Cup Final last year as well, going down to China’s Cheng Ming in the final in Istanbul. She was hoping to go one better this time round, but it was not to be.Only the top eight archers in each category make it to the World Cup Final, on the basis of their performance in the Archery World Cups through the year. Deepika was the only Indian competing at the elite seasonending event.Deepika had gone into the London Olympics as the World No.1, but had a disappointing outing and was displaced by Ki as World No.1.advertisementThe Indian capitalised on a sloppy start by Ki and took the first two sets 26-23 and 27-25. But as the Korean improved, Deepika went the other way.She had managed two perfect 10s in the first two sets, but failed to repeat the feat thereafter, with the conditions making it tough for the archers.Ki won the third set with scores of 9-9-10, while Deepika could only shoot 9-8-7. In fact, her final shots in the last three rounds all accounted for seven each. The Korean levelled the gold medal match, winning the fourth set 8-10-8 to 8-8-7.Deepika opened the decider and shot a nine, with Ki replying with an eight. Deepika, thus, had her nose in front. Both archers shot nines in their next attempts, meaning that the Indian still had a one-shot lead going into the last two arrows.Deepika could have sealed the deal with a 10, but handed the initiative to the Korean with a seven. It meant that Ki had to hit a nine to clinch the gold medal, and she did just that. The victory capped a great season for the Korean, who had won gold medals in the individual and team events at the London Olympics. Korean Choi Hyeonju took home the bronze medal with a 6-4 victory over Jennifer Nichols of the United States.Earlier in the day, Deepika won two matches to make it to the title clash.Japan’s Miki Kanie was hardly a match for the Indian, who prevailed 7-1. The semi-final against Nichols was tied 2-2 before Deepika took the next two sets to clinch a berth in the final.Ki had to go through a shoot-off with compatriot Choi to get into the gold medal match.Korea took the men’s recurve gold medal as well when Kim Woojin edged past two-time defending World Cup Final winner Brady Ellison in a shoot-off.France’s Gael Provost defeated Korean Im Dong Hyun 6-2 for the bronze medal.last_img read more

ACP No Bids for Corozal Container Terminal

first_imgzoom The deadline for submitting proposals for the concession to design, develop, finance, construct, operate and maintain a container terminal located near Corozal has expired with no bids received, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said.As a result, the tender has been declared void.Under the terms of the tender, four prequalified port operators including Dutch APM Terminals and Terminal Investment Limited, France’s Terminal Link and Singapore-based PSA International were expected to submit the required specifications and economic proposals until March 3 in order to compete for the 20-year concession of the facility. The deadline was extended on two occasions in an effort to give the companies enough time to prepare their bids. The concession would include the construction of a 2,081-linear-meter dock, a warehouse, a container yard and offices within a 120-hectare area owned by the Panama Canal. As part of the Panama Canal’s diversification strategy, the new terminal was supposed to provide additional port capacity on the Pacific side of Panama in order to support transshipment needs of larger ships traversing the waterway. The plan envisaged that the container terminal would have the capacity to handle more than five million TEUs at the canal’s entrance on the Pacific side.last_img read more
