It’s latest fashion venture – described as a “clean-lined, sophisticated capsule” – will add to the UK’s growing plus-size clothing market, which is currently valued at £6.5 billion.Earlier this year, Marks and Spencer launched a Curve range offering 100 pieces ranging in size from a UK 18 to 32, whilst last year Ashley Graham became the first plus-sized woman to feature on Forbes’ highest-paid models list.Goop’s new collection features five pieces including a dress, jumpsuit, peacoat, and tuxedo jacket with matching cropped trousers, a look that Ms Paltrow regularly wears on the red carpet. The pieces range from £187 to £327.The website has sold items of clothing from various brands since 2012, including Joseph and Stella McCartney.Speaking about the collaboration with Goop, the founder of Universal Standard, former fashion journalist Alex Waldman, told The Business of Fashion: “This is really about making [size inclusivity] the new normal through a variety of channels.“The thing that should determine [your clothing] choices should be your taste and your budget. We don’t need any more barriers than that.” In June 2017, Ms Paltrow was forced to hire a lawyer to vet all of Goop’s claims following a complaint from Nasa after the site promoted “wellness stickers” that claimed to use Nasa technology.The website, which began as a newsletter produced by Ms Paltrow for her friends, has grown into a $250 million business.
